Reading10: On Linus (as a person) and Linux (as an inspiration)

This is slightly tangential to what this blog is supposed to be about, but still on my mind after reading this section so I'm going to say it... Generally, reading this book, I can't decide whether I love or hate Linus as a person. Sometimes, he seems really relatable, like his experience at university, his lack of interest for intellectual property/trademark issues, his awkward demeanor, his hatred of root beer...those are things that I like about him, and he paints himself as extremely relatable when talking about these things. In those parts of the book, he feels relatable. However, there are parts where he brags. It's not even a humble brag, it's just a straight-up brag. He's not pompous like Paul Graham was in his essays, but there's still something that throws me off sometimes. Like in the previous reading, when he talked about how his code is always perfect, and that's how he found an OS bug. Now he was right there, there was a bug in the OS code, b
